As January draws to a close, the World Cup pulls ever closer. The beginning of February means that Nigeria’s opening match against Iran is only a month-and-a-half away.
In this article, in light of the Super Eagles’ encouraging performances at the CHAN tournament in South Africa, Goal Nigeria look ahead to the potential World Cup 23, assessing who is a ‘near-certainty’ and who is merely a ‘possible’ for the Brazil squad.
Naturally, this selection will chop and change as the coming months unfold and the tournament draws closer.

Goalkeepers

Vincent Enyeama may have missed out on the Ligue 1 record for consecutive clean sheets, but the Lille man’s fine form has established him firmly as one of the globe’s most-accomplished stoppers. As things stand, Keshi would be mad to install anyone else as Number One within the squad. Enyeama, in particular, will relish the prospect of renewing his acquaintance with Lionel Messi—the ‘keeper was in fine form against Argentina in South Africa four years ago.
Austin Ejide & Chigozie Agbim Ejide has been a steady reserve for a long time now, and his recent showing against Italy (before injury struck) has confirmed his place as a worthy back-up to Enyeama.
For Agbim, the road is much murkier. The sturdy goalkeeper has been responsible for numerous goals conceded by Nigeria during the CHAN tournament. Keshi has backed his man, but how long will his faith endure?

Mata is a footballer that would improve any side, but United’s deficiencies remain abundantly clear, and this smoke-and-mirrors splurge shouldn’t detract from those truths.

Moyes cannot afford to miss out on Mata

After two superb seasons and five frustrating months, Juan Mata’s time at Chelsea appears to be nearing its end. Even if Manchester United do not match the Blues' €54.5 million valuation this month - and not doing so would arguably constitute David Moyes’ most worst transfer decision yet - it is almost impossible to envision the Spaniard remaining at Stamford Bridge beyond the summer.

For a player who has frequently inspired and often carried Chelsea since his arrival for €28m from Valencia in August 2011 it is an incredible fall from grace. The evolution of Jose Mourinho’s second era Chelsea team, based on high-intensity pressing, tenacious tackling and swift counterattacks, has seemingly rendered the club’s greatest and purest artist obsolete in the eyes of his manager.

The statistics lay Mourinho’s rationale bare. Oscar, with eight goals and seven assists from 28 appearances in the No.10 position this season, is not on course to trouble Mata’s incredible totals of 19 goals and 34 assists from 61 games in the 2012-13 campaign.

Senate President David Mark’s Younger Sister Dies During Childbirth

Mrs. Mary Onma-Adakole, younger sister to Senate president David Mark has died during childbirth at the age of 35.
A statement by Mark’s Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Mr. Kola Ologbondiyan, on Thursday, confirmed the develoment and quoted the late Onma-Adakole’s younger brother, Mr. Igoche Mark, saying that the deceased would be buried in her home town, Otukpo, Benue State, on Friday.
