Atiku Pays Tribute To Late Amaka Igwe

Vice President of Nigeria Atiku Abubakar mourns the death of Nollywood icon Amaka Igwe, who passed from asthma attack today in Enugu.
Paying tribute to the prolific actress, writer, producer and director, Chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) called her a jewel of the movie industry.
The official recalled Igwe's award-winning "Decrees of Fate", the popular productions "Rattle Snake" and "Violated" touching upon important family issues, so as other outstanding works by the top Nollywood star.
"Amaka was one of the pioneers of the movie industry. Her presence in Nollywood grew to become quite impressive as she amassed a number of well received movies."
Atiku expressed condolences to Igwe's family and colleagues.
Amaka Igwe died at the age of 51, having been survived by an elderly mother, husband and three children.

Confusion and anxiety have been trailing rumours and insinuations that popular music duo, Peter and Paul of PSquare, may be splitting up after all these years.

These fears from fans have been heightened recently by an alarming tweet which the groups older brother, Jude Engees Okoye, made today. The message is quite vague, but seems to point a lot at the possibility of a break up between the twin brothers.

The Minister of State for Defence, Senator Musiliu Obanikoro, while speaking on Channels TV's Sunrise Daily programme today, said he earns only N2million a year

"My annual salary is N2million, everything put together plus my allowances is N4million" he said.

The Minister also addressed the issue of the inaccurate information the military passed out about rescuing 103 girls last Wednesday, April 16. He said the communication system up north has been adversely affected since the insurgence started and that there must have been a mixup somewhere along the communication line. A woman said to be mentally-challenged escaped being lynched by an angry mob on Wednesday after she was allegedly caught with N100,000, two ATM cards, two BlackBerry phones and an android phone. Incident occurred around Onabanjo Street, Oworonshoki, Lagos State, around 10am.

A resident, James Ogunkoya, told Punch that when some youths saw the woman with some money, they trailed her into a compound. The youths, who suspected her of being a ritual killer, pounced on her and beat her to a pulp.

Nigerian caught in India with heroin concealed in ladies shoes

A Nigerian man, Ozioma Kenneth Odeomenan has been arrested in New Delhi India with 330g of heroin worth $120,000 concealed in ladies shoes he was to export to America. 

 

According to India police report, Ozioma was arrested after an anonymous tip-off they got on the 14th of April that a Nigerian man carrying hard drugs was coming to the Janakpuri metro station. A team of police officers laid a trap and apprehended Ozioma, who was found with 330 grams of heroin cleverly concealed in the specially made cavities in the soles of women’s sandals.

Fulani Herdsmen in fresh attacks in Taraba state

According to a breaking news report on Channels TV, suspected Fulani herdsmen are currently attacking Wukari village in Taraba state. Eyewitness reports has it that about 15 people have been killed but police officials say its only 7 that are reported dead. Reports also say several houses have been destroyed.

Nigerian Artistes Dominate MAMA 2014 Nominations

MTV Base, Africa’s number one music authority, on Wednesday announced the nominees for this year’s MTV Africa Music Awards.

The announcement was made at an impressive nominations party at The Sands in Johannesburg, South Africa.
This year’s nominations prove that Nigerian music has fast taken over Africa.
Out of fifteen different categories, Nigeria has been nominated in eleven categories and includes some of the biggest names in the Nigerian entertainment industry.
The names comprised Omotola Jalade, Chimamanda Adichie, 2Face, PSquare, Wizkid, Burna Boy, Olamide, Flavour among many others.
