Ozil: Cristiano Ronaldo is a true genius

The Germany midfielder has praised the Portugal star and stressed that Die Mannschaft's ability to contain the Ballon d'Or winner's country in their 4-0 Group G win was impressive

Mesut Ozil has praised the "genius" of Portugal's Cristiano Ronaldo, claiming that Germany showed their defensive ability by stopping him.

Die Nationalelf enjoyed a successful opening to their World Cup with Thomas Muller grabbing a hat-trick and Mats Hummels also scoring as they brushed aside Portugal 4-0.

However, despite Ronaldo enduring a frustrating start to the tournament in Brazil, Ozil insists that he remains an exceptional player and Germany should be given credit for containing him.

"Cristiano Ronaldo had given his all for Real Madrid," the 25-year-old said in an interview with the Times of India.

Stephen Keshi Commiserates With Families of Damaturu Explosion Victims

 
Stephen Keshi commiserated with families and friends of the 21 victim who lost their lives in the explosion that occured at a football screening venue in Damaturu, capital of Yobe State, AP reports.
Fans were watching a World Cup Brazil-Mexico match on June 17, the day after the 0-0 draw between Nigeria’s Super Eagles and Iran’s national team.
Speaking on Friday at a press conference held at Cuiabá’s Arena Pantanal (the capital city of the Brazilian state of Mato Grosso), Keshi said:

"It’s not a pleasant thing, seeing people dying for no reason. It was like a double jeopardy — after our game most Nigerians weren’t very happy we had a tie against Iran, then the bomb blast wasn’t pleasant at all.

PHOTOS: Arisekola Buried In Ibadan

The late Aare Musulumi of Yorubaland, Abdul-Azeez Arisekola, was buried in his home in Ibadan, Oyo State, western Nigeria on Friday, 20 June, 2014 amid tears by family members, friends and associates.
It could be recalled that the late Arisekola died in a London Hospital on Wednesday and his remains were brought to Adamasingba Stadium in Ibadan at exactly 10.05am today for prayer.
News Agency of Nigeria, NAN, reports that after the prayer led by the Chief Imam of Ibadan, Haruna Suara, the corpse was taken to his Oluwokekere House, Ibadan, for interment.

Younger brother of footballers Yaya and Kolo Toure dies aged 28

The younger brother of Premier League and Ivory Coast footballers Yaya and Kolo Toure died yesterday June 19th in the UK. Ibrahim Toure (pictured left), who was also a professional footballer, was just 28 years old. His cause of death has not been made known but he's said to have died just hours after Ivory Coast lost 2-1 to Colombia at the World Cup. May his soul rest in peace, amen.

Singer Cynthomania aka Ada Owerri Dies In Her 20s

Week after the tragic news about gospel singer Kefee's death rocked Nigeria, another young musician passed away in her 20s.
The fast rising Imo State-born artiste Cynthia Akudo Jonah, aka Cynthomania (or Ada Owerri), was said to have died on June 18 following the brief illness, popular blogger Linda Ikeji says.
The singer, who has recently released the single "Ukwu Ajebutter", was set to drop her debut album soon.
The sad news was officially provided by Cynthomania's manager who didn't give any further details.
May her tender soul rest in peace.

BET awards organizers have announced that Nigerian duo Tiwa Savage and Ice Prince will perform in this year's award scheduled to hold on the 29th of June live at the Nokia Theater in Los Angeles.

Nigerians Hold Memorial Service For Late Singer, Kefee In California, USA

Friends and family of the late Nigerian singer, Irikefe Obareki, popularly known as Kefee, have concluded plans to hold a memorial service and a celebration of life for the Kokoroko crooner on Thursday, 19 June, 2014.
Pulse reports that the event, which will hold in California, USA, will parade some of the finest Nigerian gospel singers and ministers who are based in the US.
According to the organizers of the service, the occasion will not be an event for tears but that of celebrating the impacts the late Kefee had on Nigerians with her soul lifting songs, industry and encouraging spirit.
It could be recalled that the late Branama Queen passed on on Friday, June 13, 2014, in the United States of America.
According to her manager, the late singer died of lung cancer.
The remains of the late gospel singer arrived Nigeria on Tuesday, 17 June, 2014 ahead of the burial which will hold later this month.
Kefee's body was flown into the country via a Delta Airline aircraft and touched down at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Ikeja, Lagos, at 4 pm.
As the Obareki's family prepares for Kefee's burial, we wish them the fortitude to bear this irreparable loss.
