Between Denrele And Madness

Sharing the television with my mother is fun. Quite witty, Mama readily takes swipes at today’s trend. But that was until that red carpet. Thinking the presenter was impressing, I increased the volume.
What I got was a shocker. “Ki’ lo wo?" She asked, visibly angered. Se o ya were ni? “Loosely translated to mean, “What is he wearing… Is he mad?”. Silence.

Television personality, Denrele Edun, is a delight to watch, especially on the red carpet. Amiable, charming and quite enchanting. He has the kind of aura that thrills and frills. An eloquence that is almost nerve loosening. Yet, he’s Denrele. Funk and fun. But that’s as far as that goes. When the chips are down, you are greeted with mixed feelings.


Denrele’s style could stand anything but restriction. Creative and daring, he holds such a blatant expression. From his cranium to the soles of his feet, Denrele reeks of one enjoying his reign of fashion expression. But that reign may have been filled with
disappointments.

Fashion is art. A form of expression. It is your reflection. It is who one is after all. Elsewhere, this line of thought holds sway. Style is embraced as an avenue for the individual’s expression. Lady Gaga, the pop singer tops that chat. At the pinnacle o style freedom, Gaga typifies the exception.

Wild, daring, bizarre and controversial. But the Gaga Lady does not care. Hate it or adore it! And it works!

But not Denrele. He can hardly bank on that. Maybe not here. In the least, he seems to have endured more jeers than cheers. For all his expressions, he has earned himself names. Unprintable names. So much for a society! Denrele maybe merely expressing himself. He may be a trendsetter after all.
But who is buying into it?
