A cobbler, (shoemaker), the capital of Cross River State, was given
instant jungle justice as an angry mob burnt him alive after he
reportedly stabbed his customer to death with a poisoned dagger.
The ugly incident happened at Abangasang Street, off Etta Agbo Road,
where the cobbler who was said to be from the northern parts of the
country, had gone to repair shoes for the customer was identified as
Eteyen when an argument ensued between them over money, escalating into a
fight, leading to the cobbler bringing out the dagger and stabbing
Eteyen.
Before he could escape, a mob had gathered and after beating him to a pulp, he was set on fire.
An eyewitness narrated how the whole thing happened:
“Before we knew what was happening, the ‘Aboki’ had removed his
dagger, which I believe is poisonous and stabbed Eteyen in the stomach.
Eteyen fell down while the Aboki packed his things and wanted to run.
As he wanted to run away, people in the compound raised the
alarm and youths in the area chased and caught him and before you he
could say anything, they had found a tyre and the boy was already on
fire,” the witness said.
