Rivers Tribunal Sacks 20 House Of Assembly Members

The River state House of Assembly election petition tribunal has nullified the election of 20 House of Assembly members in the state.
The judgment was delivered on Monday, October 26.
The Punch reports that four separate panels of the Rivers state national/state assembly elections petitions tribunal nullified the elections of the Speaker of the Rivers state House of Assembly, Owaji Ibani, and 19 other seats won by candidates of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the April 11, 2015 elections.

The Supreme court has thrown out a suit filed by Rivers state governor, Nyesom Wike against the Rivers state election tribunal. Wike had approached the apex court, asking that the action of the tribunal to relocate from Rivers state to Abuja be regarded as unconstitutional. The tribunal had relocated to Abuja due to security threats in Port Harcourt.

Tanzanian music star Diamond Platnumz won the Best African/Indian Act award at the 2015 MTV EMA which took place in Milan last night. He beat African musicians including Nigeria’s Davido and Yemi Alade, SA’s AKA and Ivorian DJ Arafat as well as leading Indian musicians to win the MTV prize.

Wike Dismissal: Crowd Steps Out To Welcome Wike

Yesterday, Saturday, October 24, Rivers state governor, Nyesom Wike, was given a rousing welcome in Port Harcourt after his tribunal dismissal.
Crowd of supporters were at the Port Harcourt International Airport on Saturday evening to welcome him back from Abuja. Addressing the people, Wike said that: “the ungodly political gang-up in Abuja will never compel him to abandon the mandate given to him freely by Rivers people.”
He also stressed that the judgment of the tribunal which removed him was tantamount to a lower court over-ruling a superior court, this he said is unknown to the law.

Fresh moves to extradite ex- governor, Diepreye Alamieyesiegha to the UK is generating serious tension in Bayelsa State. Already, many socio-political organisations have described the plan as a wrong step in the wrong direction.

Vigilante shoots self dead while trying to scare thieves

Ogundare Ekundayo who was a member of a neighbourhood watch, was one of a three-man team guarding Osholanke Street, Ebute Meta. Ogundare accidentally shot himself dead while attempting to scare away thieves from the Ebute-Meta area of Lagos State.
