Why Wike is worried after Peterside’s visit to Oyegun

According to Nyesom Wike, the APC has a hidden agenda against Rivers state.

The leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers state seem to be worried over the recent visit by Dakuku Peterside, the governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), to the party’s national chairman, John Odigie-Oyegun.

During his visit, Oyegun noted that that there was something fundamentally wrong with the verdict of the Supreme Court and called for investigation of the judges.

Reacting to the meeting between Peterside, Oyegun and other APC leaders, Wike alleged that the party’s leadership was planning something sinister in the forthcoming re-run elections in the state scheduled for March 19, 2015.

Leadership reports that the governor expressed his concern speaking with journalists in Port Harcourt, through his special adviser on political matters, Pastor Monwan Etete.
According to Wike, the APC has a hidden agenda against Rivers state.
“They have realised that suddenly they have lost everything in the state and having realized that they got the money used in sponsoring APC in last year’s election from Rivers state, they will want to do everything possible to collapse everything the former government of Goodluck Jonathan put in place.
“There is also fear that because APC does not have majority in the National Assembly, they will want to do everything possible to manipulate the re-run elections so that they can form majority in the National Assembly, and then at the state level, install the speaker.

“When the governor (Wike) said anybody that wants to come and rig the election in Rivers state should prepare his will and APC reacts the way they do, people should ask why they find the governor’s warning worrisome. The Rivers state government will ensure that there is no violence in the re-run elections.

“APC thought they will get judgment from the Supreme Court which was why they fixed the re-run election on February 6 so that they will just take the PDP unawares and then over-run us at the polls. But they are disappointed,” he said.
The governor stressed that decision of the Supreme Court is final and must be respected by all parties irrespective of their interests.

Meanwhile, Felix Obuah, the chairman of PDP in Rivers state, also expressed his opinion on the Supreme Court verdict that favoured Governor Wike.

In a statement by his media aide, Jerry Needam, Oduah criticized Oyegun for showing disrespect to the justices, the judiciary and the apex court in the land. He described Oyegun’s position as a dangerous threat to the survival of the hard earned democracy in the state and the nation.

However, the national chairman of the APC has recently denied media reports that he called for the probe of Supreme Court judges after they ruled in favour of Governor Wike.
